Volunteers arrived late Sunday afternoon to a welcoming 40 degree plus day in Roxby Downs. After a quick round of introductions it was straight into work with volunteers getting their hands dirty in some bait making. Sent to bed early in preparation for the long hot day ahead it was pleasant surprise to wake up to an overcast day.
The cloud cover made the trudging up sand dunes, lugging of Elliot traps and pit fall digging a little easier and less sweaty. Volunteers were broken up into teams, with each group allocated to 4 or 5 sites each. As they say, many hands make light work and with the enthusiasm we had out there this morning it looks like it is going to be a great week. Teams managed to have all their sites set up
“I wont jinx it and say we will have an easy week just yet, but with the volunteers that we have I think there will be plenty of eager hands to help out with any work which always makes it easier,” says Volunteer and Community Coordinator Hannah Spronk.
The teams are resting up, before they head back out to the reserve to check their pit fall traps for any reptiles as well as baiting and setting Elliot traps with peanut butter and oat balls. The real fun begins tomorrow morning as the volunteers head out at the crack of dawn to check their traps for critters.
