
Have you ever heard of a bettong? A long time ago, bettongs used to live all across Australia, eating grasses and seeds and living in burrows deep under the ground. Then when foxes and cats were introduced to Australia, they started to prey on and eat the bettongs, and the rabbits started to steal their food and homes. Very quickly there were only a few bettongs left, living on some islands off the coast of Western Australia.
To help the bettongs survive, Arid Recovery was started- a big fenced off area that had no cats, foxes or rabbits to annoy the native animals. Some of the bettongs from the islands made a new home at Arid Recovery, and are very happy in their new home.
Arid Recovery is still working hard to make room so that more bettongs can live at the reserve. You can help us by entering the colouring in competition. Click on the links below to print off your copy of the colouring in competition, and when you are done, you can post it back to us at:
